Dev (Shah Rukh Khan) is a New York-based soccer player married to hotshot magazine editor Rhea (Preity Zinta). They appear to be the picture of success and happiness. So do Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan) and Maya (Rani Mukherji), although Maya's inability to bear children does put some strain on the marriage. However, a chance meeting between Maya and Dev sets these two couples on a collision course. And, since he has devoted the rest of his life to joyous hedonism, Rishi's widowed father (Amitabh Bachchan) is not exactly a moderating influence. For fans of India's popular cinema, the pleasure of watching megastars Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan perform at the top of their game - alongside Mukherji, Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan - is almost unbearable. For those who've never had the pleasure, Never Say Goodbye shows why these actors are worshipped by hundreds of millions around the world. In terms of sheer star power, this cast is unmatched. Even better, Khan and Mukherji give rich, rounded performances as a man and woman struggling with divided emotions. Mukherji is particularly hilarious in one scene, as she tries to win back her husband's attention with a sexy outfit and a blindfold. Khan delivers both the playful charm he's known for and some darker colours as well. But Amitabh Bachchan is the real revelation here, playing a vigorous older playboy with undisguised glee. Never Say Goodbye is Indian popular cinema at its absolute peak - irresistible emotion, lush music and standout performances, all set in a glossy world of vast New York apartments and luxurious estates. Like Vincente Minnelli or George Cukor in Hollywood's Golden Age, Karan Johar knows how to sweep an audience off its feet. Karan Johar was born in India. He has worked as a writer, director, producer, actor and costume designer. His first two films as director, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (98) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (01), were enormous commercial successes in India. He is currently the host of "Koffee with Karan," a popular Indian talk show. Never Say Goodbye (06) is his most recent film.
